• In 2007, we partnered with an apartment complex in Santa Ana to enhance our Second Stage Housing program. Six two-bedroom apartment homes have been set aside for OCIS families at greatly reduced rates. Still close in proximity to our main facility, this planned apartment community allows our families to experience true independence in a dignified and tranquil setting.

  • In the summer of 2008, we expanded our second stage program to the old Tustin Air force base with an additional six three-bedroom condominiums. The six condominiums are three-bedrooms with a small working kitchen and combination dining room and living room and two-bathrooms.

Orange County does not have a "skid row" similar to Los Angeles. Instead, our homeless residents for the most part are invisible and that most are families. In 2007, the County estimated that there were 35,000 homeless individuals at any given time. Over 70% of the home here are men, women and children in families. This is what makes the problem invisible. Families are not typically found on the street, but rather travel from one shelter to another or to an occasional hotel room. A few live in their cars. Many have their children enrolled in school. They work and do what they can to save money for an apartment.

In spite of these statistics, this is not a hopeless situation. Our array of supportive assistance produces excellent results for clients, who become self-sufficient and overcome problems that led them to homelessness.
