ABOUT THE ORANGE COAST INTERFAITH SHELTER
FRIENDS OF ORANGE COAST INTERFAITH SHELTER (FOCIS) supports the Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter (OClS), a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, which is the oldest and largest Shelter for homeless families in Orange County. Operating since 1981, OCIS has developed programs which help families get back on their feet and become self-sufficient. Every day the Shelter houses between 50 to 60 adults and 40 to 50 children. The Shelter, located at 1963 Wallace Street in Costa Mesa, annually provides counseling and more than 87,000 meals to over 2,300 homeless people through its Transitional and Emergency Programs. The Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter works with the whole family and is especially concerned about the children. Help reaches homeless children at a critical time in their lives when they often suffer developmental delays, insecurity, fearfulness and lack of self-esteem. Today, in Orange County there are over 35,000 homeless people and 70% of them are families with children.
