 | One morning during the first two weeks of December, the FOCIS Board holds a sumptuous Holiday Brunch. The event is usually held in an elegant private residence, a clubhouse or country club. The venue is richly decorated for the holidays by the homeowner or the association. Wonderful food is served at a buffet or sit down brunch. The event, which is held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., consists of entertainment such as a pianist or singing group, a short talk by a shelter resident, a delicious meal, an auction, and a drawing.

The FOCIS Holiday Brunch is more than a means of raising money. It is also a way to make new friends for the Shelter. Of course, the Brunch does make money. The Board works to get invitations underwritten, entertainment donated, as well as the cost of the food. The profits come from our silent or Chinese Auction, plus a drawing for door prizes. The Board is able to get some fantastic auction items from its many generous supporters.

| Holiday Gifts for the Families |

Guests are asked to bring an unwrapped gift for the Shelter residents. Sometimes special requests are made for warm clothing, socks, underwear, and waterproof shoes. On many occasions the children living at the Shelter have created beautiful Christmas ornaments which are sold at the Brunch for a small donation, then hung on a tree which is taken back to the Shelter along with the many gifts for the families to enjoy.

This lovely and popular event creates a great deal of goodwill in the community. It is an opportunity to get dressed up, have a great time, and donate to a worthy cause. The ticket price is kept low, so that it is possible to bring new guests and help spread the word about homelessness in Orange County and the good work of The Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter. Look for our little “Christmas Tree Girl” who adorns our invitations, and please join us for this fun holiday event!
